What show do you do?
The day Breaker
What is the personality of your show, favourite features?
It is an interview driven current affairs program at noon that focuses on breaking news and the development of other stories. We engage with the actual news makers and reporters on the ground tackling important issues that are affecting our society. On favourite features, the show is not a feature driven show but on what excites me about the show… Firstly I would have to say it is when we break stories, which is an exciting thing because at a given point journalist apart from the news maker themselves are the ones who possess the information and when one comes on air to deliver that particular news piece it is a special moment. Secondly, when we tap into enchanted territories of existing stories and bring in new light and understanding to existing stories that is just glorious…..not forgetting that knowledge is power…
Who does your show speak to?
It speaks to the lovely citizens of our province the Eastern Cape and our country South Africa. The patriotic citizens who always want to know where we are, where we are going and how we are going to get there, not forgetting the aspirant or already movers and shakers of our country.
Who inspired you to join radio and how did you join?
I would have to say a number of people Ali Clasine, Vusumzi “Bra Vusi Noveve, Mphuthumi “Putco” Mafani, Naye “Pucky” Luphondwana, Mpilontle Ndlaleni, Siphiwe Peter “DJ PS”etc… Let me start by saying I do not really know the actual story but this is what I believe happened. I was invited to the then CKI fm now tru fm indaba/programming conference on forming partnerships with listeners in designing a water tight program that is a result of consultation with the people. At the time I was part of a group of young musicians called Zama and the Voice Ministries and together with other youth societies within our broadcast footprint. As these groups we discussed and made recommendations on the direction of the station from a listener’s perspective. In this conference I was given a reporting role by my group which I did with passion. After this I got a second invitation as a guest to a talk show hosted by Ps Mandla Makhubalo…I believe it was Conversations…the topic was 21st century parenting and as a very vocal young parent I was “prepared” for it and I gave it my all…little did I know that this was in a way my audition piece, a couple of months later I was offered my first job as a presenter of “Be financially Smart” an SABC Education program, the rest is history.
What else do you do besides radio, your hobbies?
I am a motivational speaker running a campaign called Destined for greatness in schools and churches around King William’s Town. I am a music producer, writer, director and a DVD/Video concept developer Hobbies Walking, Site seeing, Watching Movies, Listening to Music, Sunrise or Sunsets at the beach, Jam Session with friends.
Besides your own show, which is your favourite tru-fm show?
It will have to be Zikho’s show the M.M.B, the music kills me…
Where would one find you on your weekend, what would you be doing and with whom?
Well I am hardly in one place every weekend, at times I am usually performing or doing technical work as a sound technician for other performers, @Church or out watching live performances.
What do you like most about Eastern Cape and its people?
The untainted landscapes, the glorious mountainous areas, the coastal planes, the rivers that flow into the ocean for me set the tone for the environment. The spirit of Ubuntu and the friendly nature of the people of the province are but some of the things which will forever make this province a province of choice…extending this, the rich political history, the courage of our people in fighting colonialism through frontier wars, our intellectual and our sporting heroes.
If you could be anyone else who would it be and why?
I would have to say King Solomon, and this has nothing to do with religion but because of the decision he made of asking for the formula to success not the end result. As a result it did not matter what would happen to his riches but because he knew the formula of creating and preserving he would always rise up again.
If not radio, what would you be doing?
In the field of performing Arts “Musicals”
