Born in Port Elizabeth, he started out at the community radio station called Bayfm and then later on did some Christian radio @ Kingfisher fm. Ultimate blessing was to get hired at the then Cki fm, of course now known as the trufm. Catch him on the Saturday breakfast and then in the late morning on Sunday.
ON THE LOW DOWN WITH SIYA TYELO
What show do you do?
The Nest on Sundays 9:00 to 12:00
What is the personality of your show, favourite features?
My show is soulful, has a touch of romance, quirkiness, its young & fresh but still grown & sexy. It can have a bit of satire here & there but can be surprisingly serious & motivational. Otherwise all in all its just a fun hangout spot to chill at with me and other tru people. My favourite feature is ‘ The Blonde Hall of Shame’.
Who does your show speak to?
Primarily young but mature people available at the time that just wanna relax to nice chilled out music & hear some light hearted, naughty & little bit quirky entertainment by me.
Who inspired you to join radio and how did you join?
A lot of big successful SA radio djs like Phat Joe, Dj Fresh, Bad Boy T, Mark Gilman, Jeremy Mansfiled, Sammy T & many others as well. I also got inspired by some American djs like Howard Stern, Ed Lover, Big Boi & Funkmaster Flex. I hustled my way into community radio & worked my way up from there.
What else do you do besides radio, your hobbies?
Besides being a radio dj I’m also a club dj, so when I’m not on air, all I do is gig, gig, gig no matter what! Straight up party, party, party hard because its my job as a dj. My hobbies are watching movies, stand up comedy & reading whenever I get the chance.
Besides your own show, which is your favourite trufm show?
The 411 with Anda
Where would one find you on your weekend, what would you be doing and with whom?
As I said all I do is gig, gig, gig no matter what! Straight up party, party, party hard because it’s my job as a dj. I usually go out with 1 or 2 of my boys, I keep a small entourage. Sometimes on very few occasions, like once in a blue moon I stay indoors the whole weekend & just watch movies and read that’s all.
What do you like most about Eastern Cape and its people?
It’s my home and my people out here the most genuine, down to earth, honest, fun & loving people in the world for real. One thing I’ve learnt about the Eastern Cape and its people is if you give the Eastern Cape love it will give you love back and another thing I love about this beautiful home of mine is that it constantly keeps me humbled.
If you could be anyone else who would it be and why?
No one
If not radio, what would you be doing?
Making movies or writing books.
