ON THE LOW DOWN WITH ONELA MANGXOLA

What show do you do?

Sound of Spirit Sunday from 6-9am International & National Gospel music.

What is the personality of your show, favorite features?

Truth be told I know it might sound to be a cliché but the features we have are all my favorites because of the fact that they are informative to the listener. They give one an opportunity to learn more about the Bible & who they are, with opportunities of calling in & giving their input. However we are always on the lookout that we don’t exhaust them we need to be creative coming with fresh ones constantly. The personality encompasses all different moods you can get, upbeat tempo sound with a laid back yet vibrant flow with loud noise early in the morning, I’m sure it will get you up ready for the day & your coming week.

Who does your show speak to?

The show has progressed so significantly over the past three years from an old age recipients/audiences to a more accommodative setting of Young people owning it. I guess the introduction of a young presenter was channeled in that angle. Getting a feedback from Old people & young people really humbles one because it says more work is invested in it and it caters for a diverse audience. If you think I’m bluffing please I dare you Sunday mornings to join & have your say after.

Who inspired you to join radio and how did you join?

I always had a desire to be on radio because of realizing the power & influence it has on people’s lives. Knowing my purpose in this life it was evident for me to see myself behind that mic. Most importantly the humble & huge responsibility it gives me to always respect the opportunity God has given me because speaking over people’s lives is more than a job. My entrance was orchestrated by God’s favor. I was at the right time, place with the right people, when I was given that opportunity I grabbed it with both hands. I’m still humble by the position that I have.

What else do you do besides radio, your hobbies?

Radio has really opened great opportunities for me most importantly it has allowed me to take myself out of my comfort zone (not being lazy). I’m a Youth Leader at church, I’m also a Motivational Speaker (Destined for greatness Motivational Consultant); I’m involved in Community building through different projects. That’s just the beginning of many more to come, watch the space. I’m a sport freak big time too!

Besides your own show, which is your favourite trufm show?

Are you being for real why that question now, lol. I’ve realized I have a pattern of a habit of listening to the station every time I tune on the radio as a result I fight with my sister a lot about that lol. The presenters are good what they do but there is a formidable crazy appealing sound that one enjoys more when you listen to the two crazy guys Reggie & Phetu (I’m sure everybody has chosen them too lol but the truth is give respect where it is due). AJ too is hectic quite a talent behind that woman. You talk about the swag man Siya, Akhona the list goes on. In all I’m happy to be part of a unique talent these guys possesses, they love what they do. I mean it I’m not buying your face guys okay ?

Where would one find you on your weekend, what would you be doing and with whom?

There is always an event I have to attend that’s what it means to be a Youth leader we are always planning something or honor invitations. When I get an opportunity to be at home I’m a movie addict. As much as I’m a reserved person I love people so I always visit my friends, youth, just surround myself with people.

What do you like most about Eastern Cape and its people?

It’s the breeding ground for many of the Leaders we have & will have. I came back to my province because I knew I had to also play my role in imparting a positive message to our people reminding them we are not the alienated, good for nothing, poverty sealed province. Look at the wisdom you find around Intellects, the great musicians, and sports people. I’m glad because when it blossoms to its full completion I would have been part of it. I love this province, I’m glad I was born here.

If you could be anyone else who would it be and why?

Believe me I would still choose to be Onela Mangxola. Trying to be someone else would be telling God you didn’t do a great job creating me & most importantly I don’t see myself aborting the purpose He has given me in this Earth, so I’ll still be me because all we have been given our purpose & destiny to reach.

If not radio, what would you be doing?

I’d still be a Youth leader, Motivational speaker, these are the first steps soon greater things you’re about to witness. I believe human beings were created to dominate & subdue every area in this earth so that’s where my heart is now.
