AJ was born Asisipho Blie 18 years ago in Alice. An outspoken and humorous young girl who loves interacting with her peers. Hosting the Teens Unplugged show was therefore a natural progression. This show has provided her with the opportunity to influence teenagers to strive for better things in life.
ON THE LOW DOWN WITH AJ BLIE
What show do you do?
I host the Saturday 3-6pm slot called Teens Unplugged
What is the personality of your show, favourite features?
The show is an up-beat, informative and energetic show for teenagers. Like the host, its young and full of life! The Teen Zone feature takes a comprehensive and supportive obligation to inform teens on issues related to school, friends, how they relate to their parents and so forth.
Who does your show speak to?
The show is aimed at teenagers, high school students and friends. In the “Whats On Your Mind” feature, teens call in and express themselves, uncensored!
Who inspired you to join radio and how did you join?
I never thought that I’d be on radio, but when the opportunity arose in 2007 while I was in grade 11, I jumped at it, worked hard and have not looked back ever since!
What else do you do besides radio, your hobbies?
I’m an avid reader! I love poems and biographies. My favourite writers are Iyanla Vazant, Ntozakhe Shange and Wayne Dyer. I have a blog because I believe I’m a closet writer… whether or not my ability to write is any good… I don’t know!! But I love young South Africans who write consummately about issues facing youth like myself… Lebo Mashile, Phumla Gqola, Kwezilomso Mbandazayo and Sipho Hlatswayo are amongst my favourite young people in the country.
Besides your own show, which is your favourite trufm show?
The 411 with Dj Anda. Listen to that show and you’ll know why: ABSOLUTE AND UNQUALIFIED AWESOMERY!!
Where would one find you on your weekend, what would you be doing and with whom?
On a weekend I’m having fun with people who love to have fun!
What do you like most about Eastern Cape and its people?
I love the smell of potential in the air! I recently spent two months visiting 120 primary schools in r ural areas, although children where in poverty stricken areas, they were enthusiastic and friendly. Above all, those children were optimistic. Eastern Cape people have humility, and that is an admirable quality about us!
If you could be anyone else who would it be and why?
I would definitely be Nomboniso Gasa. Having her insight, grace, intelligence and objectivity would be a blessing. I admire the brilliant head on her shoulders!
If not radio, what would you be doing?
I would be a tree-hugging, braai-loving, deejaying hippie…
