Anti tobacco month

Date: May 6, 2015

Be smart quit smoking

Smoking is a worldwide health issue. We all know the dangers smoking has on a person’s health. The anti-tobacco month campaign is a month long campaign which aims to reduce the massive tobacco consumption in the country.

Tobacco is the main cause of many fatal diseases such as TB, lung cancer, strokes, throat and heart diseases. Statistics show that 16,4% of South Africans are smokers and that 5, 4 million deaths in South Africa are caused by smoking related diseases. These are alarming figures which need immediate attention and recognition. Smoking is a serious health hazard to those who smoke and to the people around them. Even more alarming is the fact that 21% of learners between the grades of 8 and 12 are smokers of tobacco.

To quit smoking is to gain a new lease on life. There is very little you can do to your body that is as negative as smoking. Research shows that quitting at any age or stage in your life is always positive for your health. It takes 21 days to kick a habit, 21 days!!! Those 21 days will add many years to your life. I would say that makes it worth it.
