The 'Beez In The Trap' rapper describes the late singer as a "beautiful disco queen".

Nicki Minaj has paid tribute to disco singer Donna Summer, whose death was announced yesterday (17May12).

The 'Starships' singer commented on the passing of 63 year-old Donna, who was best known for her 1977 disco hit 'I Feel Love', on Twitter.

"Wow, another legend gone," Nicki tweeted on (17th May). "Rest in peace to the beautiful disco queen Donna Summer."

It was reported this afternoon that the five-time Grammy winner had passed away at her home in Florida following a long battle with cancer.

Nicki Minaj is currently in Australia where she kicked off her 'Pink Friday' world tour yesterday (16th May) with a performance in Sydney.

RJ Benjamin to audition singers

Renowned vocalist, songwriter and producer RJ Benjamin will soon be sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with singers at The Victory Theatre in Houghton.

RJ Benjamin who is known for his vocal contribution on a house tune, ‘Change The World' will be auditioning singers from next week for an eight-week singing course called "Born To Sing Pro" which will commence on Monday 11 June 12.

The course, which will be taught once a week in the evenings, is aimed at vocalists who are serious about sustaining a career as either a lead, backing or session singer. The focus of the course is to improve the overall standard of live and recorded vocals in South Africa.

"We have a lot of great singers in our country, but they seem to lack stamina" says RJ who has coached the voices of award-winning singers like Danny K and Vicky Sampson. With the growing demand internationally for our singers, we need to step up our game as excessive touring and studio work can be strenuous on the voice. There is no better place to start than learning good technique," he advises.

RJ, who is about to release his latest studio offering and final album, "Inside," whilst producing Kelly Khumalo's fifth studio album and penning new material for artist such as Lira, Sindi Nene and Tshedi from Malaika, says he will never let go of his passion to develop South Africa's future stars.

Forbes names JLo ‘most powerful’ star

Jennifer Lopez is the world’s most powerful celebrity, according to Forbes, in rankings based on a combination of earnings, press coverage and internet presence.

Lopez headed the 100-strong list, up from 50th last year, while her American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest was 29th. Lady Gaga, the pop singer, came in at number five, toppled from her top perch last year.

Television presenter Oprah Winfrey was second, followed by teen heartthrob Justin Bieber at third and singer Rihanna at fourth.

Many on the list showed business acumen as well as stage talent, Forbes said. For example, Bieber “is also a serious investor, with stakes in a dozen companies that appeal to his tech savvy, including a chunk of Spotify”.

“Numerous celebrities are leveraging their fame to make early-stage investments or launch startups themselves,” Forbes said.

The best example was JLo, whose acting and singing career appeared to have tanked a few years ago.

Her success as a judge on American Idol, a resurgence in marketing her music, and an attention-grabbing divorce from Marc Anthony, followed by lucrative product endorsement deals, have sent her financial star shooting.

“While she hasn’t stormed Silicon Valley just yet, Jennifer Lopez is a state-of-the-art celebrity success story,” Forbes said.

“With R364m in earnings over the last 12 months and a massive amount of fame, Lopez lands at number one on our Celebrity 100 list for the first time.”

Mshoza postpones plastic surgery

Kwaito star Nomasonto "Mshoza" Mnisi is no longer going under the knife as planned.

On Saturday (12May12) the plastic surgery addict boasted on LKG TV Show that she was going to undergo another procedure to go lighter, "like Christina Aguilera", have calf implants and a second breast lift.

But this week she told source she had postponed the procedures "due to complications". She refused to elaborate.

"My body cannot take any procedure for now. I will tell you when I'm ready," she said.

Mshoza hogged headlines when she bleached her skin and said she wanted to look like Michael Jackson.

Rapper 50 Cent has been admitted to hospital for surgery.

The In Da Club hitmaker took to his Twitter.com page on Wednesday (16May12) to post photos of himself lying in a hospital bed and shared his thoughts with followers as he headed for the operating room.

The hip-hop star didn't elaborate about the imminent procedure but assured fans his hospital stay wouldn't affect the upcoming release of his EP The Lost Tape, due out on 22 May (12).

He tweeted, "I'm in the hospital but my gangsta grillz Lost Tape is done so it will be out on time... I don't want to go into surgery."

Businessman Kenny Kunene and his wife, Mathato, are headed for splitsville.

The ex-convict millionaire, who's known for eating sushi off half-naked models, confirmed exclusively to newspapers that they have decided to divorce after realizing that "they have different visions in life".

Although divorce rumours started late last year 2011 after his alleged affair with a young radio presenter, the decision is a recent development that will make it to the next episode of Kunene’s self-funded and self-produced reality show, So What?.

Kunene expressed sadness at the end of his 16-year marriage, but denied that his partying and legions of groupies were to blame.

"Mathato stayed with me through everything, so if it had anything to do with my party lifestyle, she could have divorced me a long time ago. She definitely had a chance to do that when I was in jail, but she didn't. She knew that the person I am today is the same person I was when we married in 1996," he says.

Kunene says they had an understanding: he preferred to party, and she wanted to go to church and be at home with the children.

"I was so devastated when Mathato first told me her reasons she wanted a divorce. I went for two weeks without even shaving my head and beard. But I accepted it, mainly because I knew she wasn’t divorcing me because she doesn’t love me any more. We are just at different places in life," he says.

We don't need help, says Brown Dash's family

The family of the late singer Simphiwe Mpamile aka Brown Dash - who passed away last week - has turned down City Funerals' offer to assist with his burial.

City Funerals is well-known for handling the funerals of top people, including the late former minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs Sicelo Shiceka.

They have also helped a lot of indigent families that struggle to bury their loved ones.

Brown Dash's brother, Nhlanhla, initially told source that he did not want to comment "on the issue" but later said: "As a family, we want to do what is normally done when a member has passed on".

Asked to elaborate, he said: "We don't want help from any good Samaritan". The family had initially welcomed contributions but later changed tack, and said: "Brown Dash was not for sale".

Tony Guiness of City Funerals confirmed that his offer was turned down. Guiness said he sent singer Mzwakhe Mbuli to convey his offer to the family but it was turned down.

"I sent Mzwakhe to talk to the family but they turned down my offer," Guiness said.

DMX releases an EP as a preparation for next album “undisputed”

After a nearly six-year absence from the music scene, multi-platinum recording artist DMX has unleashed a brand new EP, titled The Weigh In, yesterday (15May12) for his fans who anxiously await the dog’s seventh studio album, Undisputed, which is set for release on 26June 12.

Earlier yesterday, the cover art and official track listing for The Weigh In EP were revealed, as were two of the project’s tracks: “S****t Don’t Change” featuring Snoop Dogg and produced by Dr. Dre and “That’s My Baby“, which features Tyrese.

The Weigh In EP, which includes 11 brand new tracks from DMX, also features Lil Wayne, Big Stan, and Andreena Mills. In addition to Dr. Dre, DMX has assembled a team of producers such as Rich Kid, Niam Son, and Wayno.

As was reported a few weeks ago, DMX’s seventh studio album, Undisputed, will feature the single “I Don’t Dance” featuring Machine Gun Kelly, as well as a track which is said to include an appearance from the late, great Notorious B.I.G.

Portia teams up with Stimela

Stimela are cementing their legacy in the only artistic way possible - by recruiting young artists to keep up their name for the next 30 years.

A sign of this is in the recruitment or blooding of the highly creative Portia Sibiya, who has been lucky to join a band that was formed three years before she was born.

The band was formed in 1982. The 27- year-old bass guitarist was spotted by the band's lead vocalist and legend Ray Phiri during a music concert in 2010.

Phiri, who was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards, said Stimela was "an institute which keeps its legacy alive by empowering young people", and moulds the African child. Making a comparison with Mozart, Phiri said: "It is important to celebrate our music and musicians, especially young ones."

Sibiya's first appearance with Stimela was during the launch of A Life Time at the Market Theatre in 2010.

"One day I was performing at Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park and Ray Phiri was there," she said. "I do not know how he got my number, but two weeks later I received a call from him. He said he had an offer I could not refuse, and I laughed before I could ask him to identify himself.

When he said he was Ray Phiri I screamed." Sibiya has been playing bass since 2004 and has toured with the Basadi Women's Band internationally and has performed with the likes of Tshepo Tshola.

She recently started her own band, called Colours of Africa, and also does corporate gigs. "The reason I started my own band is because I want to interact with the audience more. That feeling is what keeps me alive on stage and as a musician."

The 50-year-old US President admitted that he thinks the 38-year-old soccer player is getting too old to play the sport professionally.

Speaking at the White House in Washington D.C on Tuesday (15May12) he said the 38-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy player could be a father to some of his teammates.

He joked: ''We have a young up-and-comer on the team, a guy named David Beckham. I have to say I gave David a hard time - I said half his teammates could be his kids. We're getting old, David, although you're holding up better than me.''

The American leader was acknowledging the team's third Major League Soccer Cup and labeled him ''tough'' despite some recent setbacks including a fractured spine and injured hamstring before the championship game.

Obama added: ''In fact, it is a rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear. David Beckham is that man.''

Beyonce Knowles has been sued for R700 million by a video game developer.

Gate Five claims that the 'Listen' star went back on her word for a R140 million deal for the proposed game named Starpower: BeyoncÃ©.

Legal representatives for the 30-year-old singer insisted that she had the choice to back out of the agreement after she discovered that the company had not come up with the necessary budget for what was needed to create the product named after her.

However Gate Five has replied that she unfairly pulled out only three days before she was supposed to officially sign a contract with them back in December 2010. They maintain that her actions resulted in them losing millions of dollars and having to fire 70 employees.

The New York Post reports that Justice Charles Ramos has allowed the lawsuit to go to trial, as BeyoncÃ© should have given the company notice before quitting the deal.

Successful kwaito star and 999 Music boss, Arthur Mafokate claims his afro-soul artist, Thiwe has been stolen from him by Soulstic Music label owned by house music DJ and talented producer, Black Coffee.

Soulstic Music label manager, Amaru da Costa confirmed to news papers, that Thiwe is singed to their label. According to the reports, in 2008 Thiwe signed a three-year contract with 999 Music and released only one album titled Who Am I? The project featured the song ‘Crazy', which Black Coffee allegedly remixed without getting thumbs up from 999 Music.

"Thiwe is still my artist and I want royalties for ‘Crazy' from Black Coffee because he didn't ask for permission from 999 Music to feature the song on his album," commented Mafokate.

Coffee 'steals' Arthur's songbird

One of the world's No1 house music chefs, DJ Black Coffee, is preparing some of his coffee flavours with ingredients he allegedly stole from kwaito king Arthur Mafokate's kitchen.

Coffee, as he is known in music circles, has poached Afro-soul songbird Thiwe from Mafokate's 999 Music and signed her to his stable, Soulistic Music. Soulistic Music label manager Amaru da Costa confirms that Thiwe was signed to their stable.

According to source, Thiwe signed a three-year contract with 999 Music in 2008 and released one album titled Who Am I? The album featured the song Crazy, which Coffee had remixed.

She was supposed to have released two more albums with 999 but disappeared like a fart in a perfume factory following the release of her debut album.

Mafokate says all this took him by surprise: "Some DJs accused me of stealing her song Crazy after seeing it on Arthur Jnr's album. When I asked them how I could steal the song that I own publishing rights to, they said because Thiwe was signed to Black Coffee's stable."

"[Thiwe] is still my artist and I still want royalties for the song Crazy from Black Coffee because he didn't ask permission from us to feature it on his album" he says.

A source learnt that the dispute between the two is so bad that Coffee even tweeted, among other things, that he respects Mafokate but does not fear him. "I have seen the tweet but I will not comment, out of respect for him," Mafokate says.

Lil Wayne settles royalties lawsuit with producer

Lil Wayne has settled a R10.5 million lawsuit with a producer who accused the rapper of failing to pay him for work on his 2008 album Tha Carter III.

David Kirkwood launched a legal battle against the hitmaker and bosses at Cash Money Record sand Young Money Entertainment last year (11), alleging he was still owed royalties from the track Love Me or Hate Me.

But the How to Love hitmaker and his lawyers finally reached an agreement with Kirkwood this week (ends13May12) and together they settled the case out of court, according to source.

This marks the second suit he has resolved in recent weeks - Lil Wayne reached a confidential settlement with Grammy winner Darius Harrison in April (12) after he claimed he was owed money for contributions to the same album.

No cash for Brown Dash’s funeral

At the peak of his career, kwaito star Brown Dash swam in pools of costly champagne, ate yellow cheese and caviar, drove flashy cars and lived in posh suburbs.

But Brown Dash, real name Simphiwe Mpamile, died without a dime in his pocket, a pedestrian, a tramp and a poverty-stricken man who is likely to be given a pauper's funeral if good Samaritans don't come to his family's rescue.

The only thing Brown Dash owned when he joined the majority were the clothes he died sleeping in. The muso's family is as poor as a church mouse and are pleading with his fellow musicians to help with funds to give him a dignified funeral.

News that Brown Dash died sitting on the bones of his a*** came to the fore when his mother allegedly phoned his former stable bosses TK Nciza and Sbu Leope of TS Records, and asked them to contribute to his burial services.

A source revealed that when Sbu, TK and Robbie Malinga arrived at his house on Thursday (10may12), they received a hostile reception from a man who introduced himself as Brown Dash's uncle.

"This man just screamed at them, asking them how much they have as a contribution towards the funeral. "They were so upset they ended up contributing half of what they wanted to contribute," says a fellow muso, who does not want to named.

Two arrested in Stevie Wonder extortion plot

Stevie Wonder's nephew has been arrested and charged with an extortion scheme against the singer Alpha Lorenzo Walker, 38, was arrested on May 2, along with another alleged conspirator, Tamara Eileen Diaz.

The pair had threatened to reveal information they claimed would be embarrassing to the "Superstition" singer unless he met their demands, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office said. Celebrity website TMZ.com, citing law enforcement sources, said the pair demanded R35 million from Wonder and threatened to go to the media with a tale of incest. They later lowered the sum to R70,000 and were arrested by undercover police posing as representatives of the musician.

The District Attorney's spokeswoman declined to comment on the nature or details of the alleged extortion plot.

Walker and Diaz have pleaded not guilty to extortion but are being held in jail awaiting a preliminary hearing next week that will determine whether there is enough evidence for a full trial.

Now the entertainer, known for her amazing moves on the dance floor, she is also encouraging children to take reading seriously as a lifelong learning-boosting skill.

Qubeka shared her passion with source about books, and the chance to exercise her enthusiasm as a CNA Readathon Ambassador.

"I proposed 'Book Club with Khabonina' as a project where I use EduDance to encourage primary school pupils to read, not because they have to but because they love to."

After her proposal was accepted, Qubeka selected two primary schools, Giyani Primary in Soweto and Albert Street School in the Johannesburg inner city.

"The kids are learning and their literacy is improving," Qubeka says. "I get very hectic with my other work, shoots, dance projects and meetings but I always make sure that I clear my schedule whenever I can make to make time available for the kids.

"My eventual aim is to have them read and even write their own books. There's no limit. Reading, writing and articulating ideas are integral to being literate. Being literate boosts lifelong learning."

Lala Ngoxolo (RIP) Brown Dash

Yesterday the 9May12, Brown Dash, real name Simphiwe Mpamile, died at the Chris Hani-Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto where he was admitted on Monday.

His manager Siphiwe Sibisi said: "He just complained about not feeling well and we took him to hospital where he died."

Brown Dash has been in and out of hospital since 2010 when he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

His wife Lunga died last year 2011 in May. They had been separated for a while at the time of her death.

His friend, kwaito star Bricks yesterday visited him in hospital before he passed away.

When he was at the 18th Samas in Sun City two weeks ago, many people in the music industry expressed shock at his poor health while performing at the awards.

He had been living in a commune in Melville, west of Johannesburg, for some time, sharing with Sibisi.

Robbie Malinga, producer and musician who has been involved with all Brown Dash's projects, said: "I'm speechless. I have no words to describe my grief".

Musician Arthur Mafokate said: "This is obviously shocking. Brown Dash was one of those musicians that kept kwaito raw and real".

Boity Thulo's new show

It started as a rumour that Boity Thulo will be leaving Media Career Guide to be the new LIVE presenter, SABC1 responded by saying that the rumour wasn't true and rumblings followed that she would be joining a different show.

Now the full picture has been revealed. Turns out Boity will be hosting a new interactive magazine show called Zoned: Wanna b famous? She'll be co-hosting with Ses'khona presenter Mpumi Mbethe.

It premieres on SABC1 on Thursday, 17 May at 18h30 for a 26-episode run.

Rumour: Lil’ Wayne dump his fiancé

A source is reporting that Lil’ Wayne has broke things off with his rumoured fiancé, Dhea.

According source inside the YMCMB camp, Dhea posed for a photo shoot for a popular men’s magazine and Weezy was having none of that. She also created a Twitter account much to the dismay of Lil’ Wayne.

We looked through Weezy’s tweets and found the one below that solidifies that her alleged actions in his mind are cause for dismissal.

Here is the twit: “Like my girl low key, no photoshoots, no twitter, no none of dat sh###t…just tune”.

According to their source, Weezy felt like she was trying to capitalize off his name and get a little fame “Amber Rose style.”

Siyabonga Radebe: “Poor landing in Joburg”

Actor and stand-up comedian “Siyabonga Radebe”, who made his mark on a drama “A place called home” while playing a street kid, shared his life experience while trying to getting butter in Jozi.

Speaking with source this is what he had to say about life in Jozi:

You came from Durban and settled in Joburg eight years ago. What are the life lessons you picked up?

I learnt to be more independent. I got a taste of living alone when I stayed 30 minutes from home at the Durban University of Technology campus. Every Friday I would meet my mother in town and she would give me R100 – every Friday without fail. I feared Joburg because people don’t portray it in a good light. I learnt to be responsible and take care. I was young, just 22, and now I am 30. I think I was fortunate to grow up away from my parents to learn from my mistakes and realise that they were correct on a lot of things.

Was it an easy landing in Joburg?

No ways. There was a time we stayed in a room in Orange Grove and didn’t know how I was going to pay the rent at the end of the month. I used to do gigs at Horror Cafe and be paid R250. I could buy 2kg of rice and mielie meal. Then I would walk from Orange Grove to Randburg to perform at Tony’s Grill & Bar for white people. I was so scared of them, but I resolved to face my fears. I knew that if I was that good, I would be offered a lift back home. Through it all, my friends and I always knew that our art would get us through.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon working on cartoon

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are working on an animated project together. The husband and wife duo are developing a fairytale that their two-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan can enjoy.

He said: ''Yeah we actually got some stuff in development that we're working on, some animated stuff that her and I are putting together. So you'll definitely see her in that space too. ''Oh yeah, it's just something that we both enjoy, and even more so than that, we're both kids at heart. So we love those types of stories and fantasy/fairytale type of stuff.''

The executive producer of the upcoming Nickelodeon movie 'Rags' revealed that his desire for work at the moment is geared towards how his relatives can benefit.

He said: ''I mean it's one of those things where a lot of the stuff I'm going to be doing in the near future is going to be really family-driven just because of the fact being a father and wanting to be able to provide content for my kids.

''So it works out really good. It makes you proud when you can have some work that your kids can go see.''
