Dawn Matthews, whose role as Shakira on the popular SA soapie Scandal, says she had wanted to study law as she grew up.There was a remote chance of being an actress.

Matthews, who acts the role of Shakira “the villain” who will never think twice about killing anyone standing in her way. "I was keen on studying law, but always wanted to do something in the arts.

I haven't looked back since changing my mind," she said this week (2Feb11). She holds a bachelor of dramatic arts degree from the University of Stellenbosch.

“As any ordinary kid, we always had dreams that turned out not to be us once we grow up, this is the same story to me, acting came out late but I fell in love, as time goes I was passion about it, and think is the right thing for me” She said.

Beyonce offered about R35m to judge on X Factor?

Simon Cowell has reportedly offered Beyonce Knowles R35m to be a judge on US 'X Factor' for the next five series as he looks for a ''big name'' celebrity to improve the show's ratings.

The music mogul is thought to be keen on acquiring the 'Single Ladies' hit maker’s services for five series as he searches for a "big name" celebrity to replace axed former judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul in order to improve the Fox show's ratings.

A source told said: "He wants a big name female star on the panel. Mariah [Carey] is good, but she's not that hot today.

"He wants Beyonce because that would immediately give him the bounce needed to beat 'American Idol'."

Meanwhile, Randy Jackson thinks Mariah would be an "amazing" US 'X Factor' judge and he hasn't ruled out the possibility of her joining the show.

Khabonina: “My birthday is not only for me but to benefit others”

Khabonina Quebeka celebrated her 31st birthday far from home this year 2012 in Nelspruit.

“For the past ten years I have used my birthday as an occasion to provide a platform for new talent to showcase themselves,” said Quebeka. “And I decided that it was time to spread my wings into other provinces and Limpopo was it.”

“I contacted a SABC radio station and asked them to mention that I was coming to town, and if anyone was interested in joining me on stage, and that they should send their details to me via Twitter or facebook.”

Quebeka was inundated with applications, selected a few and asked them to join her for auditions on the day prior to the show.

After watching the auditions, she selected those that would be stage ready after a bit of grooming.

“I use my birthday for upcoming talents to perform so that available scouts can select the few, I think it is important to help others even if is by a little” said Khabo.

Qubeka said that it was really different performing and sharing her birthday in Limpopo. “I felt genuine love and appreciation for me as a person and not just as an artist.”

John Travolta to donate jet to museum

Actor John Travolta plans to donate a jet plane to a museum in Georgia in honour of his late son.

Robins Air Force Base spokesperson Chrissy Miner says the actor will donate a G-2 Gulfstream executive jet to the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame at the Museum of Aviation.

Museum officials say Travolta, who is a pilot, is donating the plane in honour of his son Jett, who died in 2009.

Source said the jet will be used as a display for an upcoming air show.

Joyous star treats fans to solo album

A musical director, producer and principal songwriter for Joyous Celebration since 2001, Nqubeko Mbatha’s announcement that he has released a solo album is long overdue.

Talking about his album “The album includes songs I have done with Joyous, but have rearranged, known traditional songs and new ones because I believe fans deserve new material,” said the man Joyous Celebration has to thank for all the classics he has written over the years.

Few years back, he showed his skills of playing keys mixing with his voice on SABC’s TV show “I want to sing gospel” in which he left the crowd looking for his solo album.

“Since birth, all I knew was gospel music. I come from that Assemblies of God and traditional hymns back-ground. I was exposed to it so much it became second nature,” he said.

This is probably one of the reasons he is such an asset to Joyous Celebration, as few musicians in the industry can match his skills.

On his debut solo album, Mbatha worked with his wife, fellow Joyous Celebration musician Ntokozo Mbambo. It is a classic Sonny and Cher relationship in which they support each other creatively and otherwise in their respective projects.

Rihanna has beaten out models Kate Upton and Adriana Lima to be named the Hottest Woman on Twitter in a new magazine poll. The R&B star's racy tweets and provocative snapshots helped her land the title on Complex magazine's countdown.

Upton comes in second, while Lima is third. Zoe Saldana and Nicole Scherzinger, round out the top five. Beyonce, Cassie, actress Emmanuelle Chriqui, Shakira and model Candice Swanepoel also make the top 10.

Mo and the Dark Knight : plead for support form fans

South African artist “Mo and the Dark Knight” (aka Sechaba from Isidingo) forms part the twelve bands shortlisted for Usher’s opening acts.

The singer is said to be seeking for support form his fans in the competition.

Twelve bands have been selected to compete for the opportunity to open for Usher at the Festival of Legends which is scheduled to happen at Orlando Stadium in March.

“This is the great opportunity, I’m sure each an every artist do wish to be in the top six to open for Usher, hence this is the great exposure for show casing talent and let the world see what I’m made of ” said Mo.

Over the next four weeks, the finalists will be reduced to six winners - one from each region. The choice of the six winners is in the hands of the public who can vote for their favorite performers via their cell phones by dialling *120*793#.

Every one of the six winners will have the opportunity to take to the stage at the festival.

Justin Bieber enjoyed a break from recording on Tuesday night (31Jan12) to bond with rapper Lil Wayne at a skate park. The Baby hitmaker has working with superproducer Timbaland on his upcoming album and the pair received an unexpected visit from Lil Wayne and members of his Young Money crew (Ymcmb).

Detailing the night on Twitter.com, Bieber's manager Scooter Braun writes, "got great reports on the first night with @justinbieber and @timbaland. exciting stuff. heard Ymcmb stopped by too. gonna be interesting". It's not clear if Lollipop star Wayne recorded with Bieber, but the teen singer posted two photos of the artists bonding over their shared love of skateboarding on his Twitter page on Wednesday (01Feb12).

He writes, "good time in the studio last night. back at it tonight. oh yeah...and big bro came thru... and when i say big bro i mean @LilTunechi (Lil Wayne)."

Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry advised to take parenting classes

Halle Berry and ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry have reportedly been advised to take parenting classes together.

The pair - who have three-year-old daughter Nahla - were in court yesterday (30.01.12) and they are said to have been advised to go on a course by the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services for the sake of their little one.

The organization is currently investigating claims by the child's nanny Alliance Kamden that Gabriel pushed her while she was holding Nahla.

A source said: "The report recommends that Halle and Gabriel attend parenting classes together, so that they can co-parent Nahla together. The classes will give them the tools to work through their issues, and hopefully become better parents for it."

Khethiwe on Generations: ”fans want her out”

Generations viewers will find it galling to know that Winnie Modise, who plays Khethiwe in the daily soapie, thinks her character is the "sweetest ever" on local TV.

She says she loves the fact that Khethiwe gets up people's noses. Khethiwe is probably the most hated character on our screens at the moment, with Generations fans pouring out vitriol against Khethiwe and Winnie on the Generations Facebook page.

One posting on Khethiwe received more than 200 hate comments, with some who confuse the actress and her character demanding that Modise be removed from the soapie and others demanding that Khethiwe's storyline be scrapped.

"OMW. [Oh, my word!] There's just no end 2 Khethiwe!!! She needs 2 b retrenched 4rm the cast nd b put on 2 Gospel Gold or sumthing; she needs sum serious spiritual therapy. Real pain in the A#!," posted Alfreda Davids, echoing other comments.

But Modise has a cool response.

"If the hatred is directed at Khethiwe I really can say it's a job well done. As much as there are those who hate Khethiwe, there are those who relate to what she's gone through," she says.

She sees the calls by viewers to write her character out of the soapie as a back-handed compliment of her superb acting.

Beyonce is a new subject

HIP-HOP fans can now study Beyoncé thanks to a new course at America's Rutgers University.

Lecturer Kevin Allred has signed up to teach "Politicising Beyoncé" as part of the school's Women's and Gender Studies curriculum.

The class offers New Jersey students the chance to watch the pop star's music videos and explore how the Single Ladies hitmaker's image and music has affected the world.

An overview of the course on the university's website reads: "The performer's music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics. Course topics include the extent of Beyoncé's control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, Sasha Fierce."

The course includes class discussions, which "often lead to other vocalists, including Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lady Gaga, and contemporary musicians who embrace the soul-singing tradition like Adele and the late Amy Winehouse."

Beyoncé's husband is also the subject of his own higher education course - Georgetown University is currently offering students the chance to take the "Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z".

Sultry TV personality Nonhle Thema never ceases to amaze.

One day she's apologising for her ugly Twitter rants, but before you know it she's at it again, hammer and tongs. This time hip-hop music producer Sefako Moloto, also known as Sean Pages, is on the receiving end of her rants.

On Tuesday (24Jan11) Thema, posted an attacking tweet on Pages's social-network page, accusing him of sub-tweeting her.

This after Pages tweeted: "I-Twitter yenza abantu bazizwe amandla yong." (Twitter makes people feel powerful).

Thema's response didn't sit well with Pages, who said: "Not everything is about you."

Pages added: "When you (sic) single at 30 and you're a couple of rappers' jump-off (side chick) of course you'll go bipolar."

Thema then posted: "I will **** you up." Pages then said: "All you say is boom I'm rich you broke, you have been singing the same song for 3 years, a perfect example of a woman with no substance."

When asked for comment, Pages sent an SMS saying: "Nonhle keeps dissing local rappers, saying they are broke, but Les and Lagosh had intimate relations with her and she was chasing Tido late last year 2011, but Tido rejected her.

"And she's busy doing Lil' Wayne lookalike (Young Nucho). She's been mad for 2 day." When called for comment, Thema neither denied nor confirmed the Twitter insults.

She said: "Yazi yini bhut'wam angizingeni (You know what, my brother, I won't entertain this)."

It's not the first time Thema has been in a verbal spat with a local celeb. Last year 2011 she started a battle with now former SABC1 Live music show presenter Minnie Dlamini on Twitter, which was said to have been triggered by a fight between them.

BOW WOW Once, twice ...three times a tax lien

Bow Wow needs to hire himself a new accountant -- because not only does he have a tax lien (legal claim) against him for unpaid taxes from 2006 ... but now it turns out he owes back taxes from 2008 and 2010 as well!

As TMZ first reported, a tax lien in Florida for the year 2006 put Bow Wow on the hook for R635, 739,27. The lien has still not been paid off.

Now a new lien was filed on January 9, 2012, this time in Georgia, saying Bow Wow owes R106, 957,34 for unpaid taxes from 2008 and another R137,906,37 for 2010.

Put it all together ... and you've got R882, 260, 98

Calls to Bow Wow's rep were not returned.

Arthur's son recording album

Now that kwaito king Arthur Mafokate's son, Arthur Jnr, has passed matric with distinctions in mathematics and business studies, his father has allowed him to cut his own CD.

Mafokate has finally relented and allowed his son, also named Arthur, to follow in his footsteps.

Arthur Jnr will release his debut album - curiously called Mandela - next week (30Jan11).

Junior, who shows a striking resemblance to his famous father, was yesterday (26Jan11) busy shooting a video of his coming album at Club Hush in Rosebank.

The 18-year-old has long wanted to become a musician but Arthur Snr would have none of that and insisted that his son first get a matric.

"He wanted him first to complete matric. The boy did not disappoint since he passed very well by achieving two distinctions.

"The father had no choice but to allow him to follow his dream," said a source who asked not to be named.

At the video shoot yesterday, Chomee, another Arthur Snr prodigy, was all over the place supporting the young house music artist. Chomee is featured in Arthur Jnr's video.

Tuks ready to drop 5th album

Tuks is back with his fifth studio album, Footprints.

Set for release in March this year 2012, Footprints will be the rapper's second independent release under his own record label, June/July Productions.

It carries sixteen tracks and contributions from the likes of Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), Blaklez, N’veigh, Tu-Klaps and sultry soul singer Lydia Caesar, who features on a track called “Love Angel”.

On production Tuks worked with Nyambz, Sean Pages, Archbishop, Dome and Towdee Mac.

"Tuks plans to take this album to the rest of the world, having already started with a successful UK tour in December 2011," says a source.

Tracks to look out for include the title track, “Footprints” and "Bona fela", which has already been used as a soundtrack on SABC1.

The prolific South African DJ/Producer “Black Coffee” seems to be setting all records for SA DJz after He started by breaking a record of becoming the world best DJ to play for 60 hours using only one hand.

Recently Black Coffee adopted the new style of performing with the live band, in which they made their first appearance in Durban Music festival last year 2011, where they left crowd blown away.

“This is what I always wanted to do (performing with live band), I want to experience the whole art of music than being just a regular DJ” said Coffeee.

DJ Black Coffee, will headline one SABC’s radio station day party scheduled to take place at the Johannesburg Zoo on Sunday, 29 January 2012 and it is reported to be supported his live band and this proves that Coffee is close as ever to his live band.

The Washington born South African rapper, Da Les, is working on his second solo album.

Leslie Mempe, who is also the second half of the muthaland-crunk group Jozi talked about his upcoming sophomore.

“Right now I’m hella far into the project. I been ready ever since I dropped the first, I’ve just been putting a couple of pieces to the puzzle together” said Da Les.

Talking about the production Da Les said: I got two hot new producers on the team. A guy named Ruff, another named Sneja and a couple more surprise producers. I’m also trying to get into producing now so I might be on a couple *sh.

Da Les collaborated with Maggz, L.Tido, Riky Rick and new artist Gotti, on the album.

Rihanna gets tattoo same as Tupac

Rihanna has paid homage to rapper Tupac Shakur by getting the same tattoo as him.

The 'We Found Love' hitmaker has had 'Thug Life' etched on her hands, the same inking that the slain rapper - who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996 - had on his stomach.

She tweeted a picture with the caption "? All these chicks screaming that 2pac back ? #THUGLIFE (sic)."

The 23-year-old is a huge fan of tattoos, with approximately 14 visible inkings including a musical note, a Pisces, the word 'love', a trail of stars and the French saying 'Rebelle Fleur' - which means rebellious flower.

Rihanna also appears to have gotten a new tattoo on her back. She posted a picture on the micro-blogging site of her posing on a table drinking a bottle of beer while the tattoo artist Mark Mahoney worked on her body art.

She wrote: "My boo Mark Mahoney!!!! #RockstarS*** #TATnight (sic)."

The 36 year old father-of-four, says all he ever wanted to was play football and somehow, after getting together with Spice Girl wife Victoria, they became a celebrity supercouple.

Beckham told source: 'I never wanted to be famous. I was never interested in anything else apart from becoming a footballer.'

And at 36, Beckham knows he doesn't have long left in the game, but certainly has a lot to do before he retires.

He said: 'I know what my limits are, what I can achieve and which passes I can play. So that’s been my game over the last few years: I have adapted to my age, different situations and the position that I’m playing in. 'I still love playing; I still love being part of a team. Right now I’m not even thinking about retiring.'

The South African Prolific DJ “Terance” turns into a chef.

Talented DJ producer Terance Molefe, who claims to be a master in the kitchen, will be swopping his headphones for a chef’s suit, apron and tall hat to cook for charity.

DJ Terance’s involvement in this charity is to show love and care to the poor children on the streets.

“As popular acts we need to share some of our time trying to help others and I believe kids do listen to us as celebrities, which makes it easy for us to reach them and convey the message” said Terance.

Terance will cook for street kids this coming weekend (28Jan11) around Jo’burg and also prepare food to be sold to raise funds for the kids.

Halle Berry's ex investigated after allegedly pushing nanny

Halle Berry's ex Gabriel Aubry is at the centre of a Los Angeles investigation after allegedly pushing his daughter's nanny against a door. The child minder, hired by both Aubry and Berry, was reportedly holding the couple's three year old, Nahla, at the time of the incident, which took place last week (18Jan12).

According to a police report, the unnamed nanny challenged Aubry over his decision to keep his daughter at home and not take her to school because of an illness. The model became upset and pushed her.

She has since filed a police report, claiming she was injured during the brief altercation. Police are taking the incident seriously, listing it as a battery. Reports suggest the nanny has now quit.

A special hearing into the incident has been scheduled in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday (24Jan12) and Berry is flying back from a film location to attend.

After reported opening Bars all over the country including 9 provinces and paying for his reality TV show cost, Kenny is said to be broke. This is after one of Johannesburg's most popular clubs ”Zar”, is reportedly, closing down.

According to source, its owners, Kenny Kunene and Gayton McKenzie, were allegedly not able to pay the rent for their luxurious club because the pair had blown their money "giving free drinks to clients all the time".

Speaking to source, Kunene rubbished the allegations, stating that his move to shut up shop was "based purely on the property owners wanting to extend the building".

Kunene said that the club would move to other premises in less than six weeks.

A statement posted on the Zar website reads: "The club where it all began will soon be enjoying a new beginning of its own. ZAR and its management thanks the endlessly loyal support ZAR Sandton enjoyed in its first nineteen months and look forward to welcoming you all again to our bigger and even better venue during the course of 2012."

South African vocalist and artist “Bucie Nqwiliso” is said to be going through a rough patch this week, After hearing bad news last Sunday (22Jan11) of her two cousins passing away.

Bucie is heartbroken about the death of her two cousins.

“This is very hard to accept for me, losing people that were close to you is not easy to take” said Bucie.

She lost two close cousins in just one hour, but from what we have from her facebook account, it is not clear the cause of death.

A source said: "Whitney's fortune is gone. Music industry heavy hitters are supporting her and her label is fronting her cash against her next album, but no one knows when that will be released ... She might be homeless if not for people saving her. She is broke as a joke."

Whitney - whose ex-husband is Bobby Brown - is believed to be in such a dire financial position has even had to resort to contacting friends for small loans.

The source added: "She called someone to ask for $100. It is so sad. She should have Mariah Carey money, and she's flat broke."
