The Scorpion King series is a direct descendant of The Mummy franchise, hence the desert setting etc. Rise of a Warrior is really a prequel, meaning the movie they should have made before the Scorpion King (which had The Rock starring in it) and it’s for explaining how the King rose to where he ended up. it’s a story of a long journey, filled with pain and betrayal, and mythical creatures you’ve never even heard of.

The original movie was ok, nothing special, and this one continues on that vein. It doesn’t help that The Rock is nowhere to be seen (instead we have Michael Copon – yeah, who’s that?), at least that would have given it some sort of leg to stand on. Most times when the original cast is cast aside, the movie loses its essence.

This happened to Rise of a Warrior. Works only for a weekend of nothing much going on.
