Dvd Review: Lira - Live Concert
Lira has certainly come a long way from her days at the 999 studios. This DVD is her musical journey and shows the amount of growth that she has gone through since her debut in the South African music industry.
The DVD consists of songs from her Feel Good album which was released in 2006 and Soul in Mind which was released last year.
There's a different energy to a recorded studio album and one which captures a live performance. The DVD is the sound of a woman getting into her own skin, of finding her own creative voice and exploring the music that people heard on 'Feel Good’ and “Soul in Mind” but taking it much deeper.
She started with “Hamba” which is an all time favorite song by Lira. Other songs on the DVD include “Rise again, Ngyazifela, Soul in Mind & Believer”
The production was very well done. The lights and the stage are clean and big. The band and the backing vocalist are great. They are real backing singers and don’t try to shine on Lira’s shine.
At the end she entertains the crowd by doing all the old Mzansi dance moves, your skere, qobetsa, ngwazi, phuli’qolo etc which is a nice surprise and brought a bit of the old Mzantsi feel to the DVD
There are few DVD’s like that in this country. She has set the standard and all the South African artists should take notes. If you are a true Lira fan, you will definitely enjoy this DVD.
