Malaika is back with their fourth album "Mmatswale", a
13-track album that is set to become another chart-topper for this hugely
popular Afro-Pop group and it is the first one after the loss of Jabu. On
Mmatswale, Malaika delivers an album that covers a wide and eclectic mix of
genres including Gospel, Pop, R 'n B, Traditional South African folk music and
Dance.
The sound of the album is a
representation of each member of the group. One of the most poignant songs on
Mmatswale is "Roma Nna",a
song that touches on the spirituality that enabled Tshedi and Bongani to cope
after the tragic loss of co-founding member, Jabu Ndaba. There are other songs
that touch on how the group coped after Jabu's death including "Farewell", a tribute to the late Malaika member.
The album's title track is a
classic track that celebrates and praises mother-in-law and is already
playlisted on most of South
Africa's
radio stations and climbing the charts. In 2008 Malaika took home the South African Music
Award for Best Afro-Pop album, proving yet again the immense
critical and popular appeal of this unique act.
