Sports presenter Walter Mokoena has resigned from the SABC and has taken early retirement. Mokoena’s emotional breakdown (crying) moment before presenting the recent Kaizer Chiefs-Orlando Pirates PSL derby has been revealed.

“I was so emotional because I knew that was going to be my last chance to present the biggest match ever. “I wanted to say goodbye to my fans after the match but couldn’t bring myself to say so,” he said.

Mokoena wanted to leave the SABC when his contract expired at the end of March but was persuaded to stay on until after the Fifa World Cup, which starts in June. SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said “We can confirm that he has engaged us about his resignation but we have persuaded him to stay until after the World Cup in July.”

A colleague who asked to be anonymous said “He took them by surprise when he told them he was quitting. “They didn’t expect him to leave so soon because, despite his flops, the boy is really good.”
