Paul The Octopus Is No More
The octopus from the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany made a splash during the World Cup by accurately predicting 100% of Germany's results at the tournament is dead. He was the darling of the Teutonic nation until he broke their hearts by predicting Spain would win the semi-final against Germany, and go on to beat Holland in the final.
Centre manager Stefan Porwoll of Paul, who died, like most octopi, at the age of two said "We are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here and that the care provided him by our dedicated displays team could not have been bettered," "His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself.
We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine."
Paul's handlers had wanted him to "step back from the official oracle business" after the World Cup, and his last prediction was that England would win the fishy bidding war to host the 2018 World Cup.
