Spring is synonymous with new beginnings and is thus another chance at rebirth and renewal. Plants will start to bloom, animals will return from hibernation and MY personal favourite…sleeves; pants and skirts will get shorter. We can all finally spend more time outdoors instead of being cooped up in the house under blankets. This is especially exciting for those of us who are close to the coast. I know that I for one, welcome September and the spring that comes with it with open arms. What a wonderful time of the year!
September also sees us celebrate Heritage as well as Tourism month, two very significant attributes for the Eastern Cape and tru fm as a station. In August we celebrated Women during Women’s Month and hosted a very successful event at East London City Hall in conjunction with Vision for Women a NGO from P.E. that specializes in issues around women. 250 women joined tru fm to celebrate the women in our community and to learn valuable lessons from some of our guest speakers.
Our country and indeed our province are so rich with heritage, boasting many different cultures. During September we need to give some thought and pay homage to all that makes us the wonderful individuals that we are. This month take the time to find out the origins of your surname; your tribe, your clan and the human race in its entirety. Be proud of who you are and where you come from. It is very difficult to determine where you are going unless the path of where you come from is very clear. Find out what makes you who you are! One of the stories featured in this month’s edition of our newsletter is a profile of The Homestretch Team (Mon – Fri at 15h00 – 18h00) and what Heritage Month means to them. This along with the RWC is one of the themes that they will be carrying on the show throughout the month.
September also marks Tourism Month. As tru fm we are getting behind Project Table Mountain. Table Mountain is in the running to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature. Our very own iconic structure that attracts tourists from all over the world has made it to the top 28 from a list of 440 destinations!! Lets us all as a country get behind our mountain and make it a wonder of nature! I urge you all to vote by clicking on the tourism banner below and following the prompts or by simply keeping it locked to 89.9 – 104.1fm like no one else for more details!
As we celebrate the beauty of the Eastern Cape and South Africa let us also come together to get behind Amabokoboko as they prepare to kick of their campaign of defending their world title in New Zealand.
Happy Spring; Heritage and Tourism Month and GO BOKKE!!
