Benni and Neeskens team up in talent hunt
Three youngsters will be chosen to impress former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
Johan Neeskens will put aside a disappointing debut season with club Mamelodi Sundowns to unearth South Africa's best young talent over the next two months.
The former Barcelona assistant and Absa Premiership title winner Benni McCarthy begin their search to find the best three amateur footballers aged 16 to 20 in Johannesburg this weekend (1June12).
Neeskens is out of the country on holiday but will return later this month to prepare the players picked in a football camp for the trip to Barcelona, Spain, in August12.
The Sundowns coach and McCarthy were selected as scouts for a nationwide search to give aspiring footballers a shot at turning professional and meeting former Barca coach Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola will then hand-pick the last young player standing - from 100 hopefuls - who will get a two-month deal at the Nike Academy and will get to fight for a contract with a European powerhouse.
Reyaad Pieterse, a former Wits junior goalkeeper, was the success story last year and is now on the books of Irish club Shamrock Rovers.
Shaun Bartlett and Craig Rosslee will also be part of the project, but Neeskens and McCarthy have the final word on the best three youngsters.
